The
WoWMug® effect is created by applying a coloured heat sensitive coating
to a white ceramic mug. The mug is then printed. On a dark coating the printed
image cannot really be seen but when the hot liquid is added to the mug,
the heat sensitive coating becomes transparent and the printed image appears,
bright and strong.
As the mug cools, the heat sensitive coating is restored to its original
colour. The effect does not wear out, but prolonged exposure to direct sunlight
will fade the coating.
Coating colours
The
heat sensitive coating is available in several standard colours: black,
pink, red, green, blue and orange. Specially coloured coatings can be prepared
for a minimum order quantity of 20,000 mugs.
If the image is printed on a dark coating, it is only vary faintly visible
when the mug is cold. On lighter coatings, the image is partly visible when
cold. In either case, the effect is dramatic.
Print
The
mugs are printed by dye-sublimation: the image is first printed using special
inks onto a carrier paper and then transferred by a heat process to the
ceramic surface. Under heat, the inks vaporise and permanently dye the mug
with your design. The process is quite different from conventional printing
and there are limitations. On the other hand, the sublimation process gives
an exceptionally bright and attractive finish unobtainable by any other
means
Unique 360 degree print
Your design can be printed all the way round the outside, including right
under the handle. We call this 'full-wrap'. Alternatively, a 10mm gap can
be left either side of the handle ('partial-wrap').
Names or logos can be permanently visible
The mug can be screen printed in one or more spot colours with permanently
visible inks. This print can be seen whether the mug is hot or cold. Because
mugs vary slightly in size and handle position, it is not possible to register
the position of the permanent spot colours closely to the background print.
Spot colours have to kept 25mm away from the handle.
